Krillion Rejected Your Answer? The Validator, Explained

When Krillion shows NOTHING LANDED for an answer you know is real, it's the validator — the game itself labels answers and scoring as beta. Here's what to do.

Why did Krillion reject my valid answer?

Because the validator didn’t recognize it — and the game itself warns you this will happen: the official packs page carries a “Free for now · BETA — Answers & scoring may have issues” notice, and r/Krillion has a running thread arguing the game “seriously needs work on its answer validation”. Rare-but-correct answers are the hardest kind for a validator to recognize, which is why depth-chasers hit this most.

What rejection actually looks like

In live play we confirmed the exact failure state: the answer appears in quotes, followed by “NOTHING LANDED · +0 PTS” and the flavor line “never made it onto the reef.” The prompt banks zero and the dive continues. Two different causes produce the same state:

  • Constraint violations — we answered “Tuvalu” to “name a country with the letter Y in its name” (no Y): rejected, correctly.
  • Unrecognized valid words — we answered “pelota” to “a sport played with a stick, bat, or club” (a real sport): also rejected.

What to check before blaming the validator

  1. Spelling — the safest rare answers are worthless misspelled; double-check before the 25-second timer beats you.
  2. Prompt constraints — required letters, regions, and categories are hard filters (see prompt categories).
  3. Ambiguity — very obscure proper nouns are where validators fail most; a slightly less rare synonym sometimes lands.

Where to report validation gaps

The result screen links the official channels directly: “Found a bug? Lost an unlock? Contact us” for problems, and “Got an idea for a question? Tell us what to ask” with a submit box for prompt suggestions. r/Krillion doubles as public feedback — validation complaints posted there are exactly the signal the developers tune against. Until then, treat near-misses as part of the beta trade-off the official site openly warns about.
